HEARTeens is coming to a close! Counting down the last six days, how time passes!
Sadly, we’re not up to our target yet, but we really appreciate all the help and support everyone has given. Thanks, everyone! (:
After we have tallied everything, we will let all of you know about our progress and how much we have managed to raise.

HEARTeens has already had so many street sales, mainly at Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar, though once was at Bugis, and another one time at Orchard. HEARTeens is coming to the end of their daily street sales since the June holidays are almost over. Soon, HEARTeens will be shifting their focus to online sales, so stay tuned to find out what you can buy from us online! :D

Let HEARTeens teach you how to fold a HEART today! With tons of experience, you can rest assured you’ll never go wrong.
Step 1: Get a piece of square paper!

Step 2: Fold the paper into halves.

Step 3: Fold the left and right corners to the center, matching edges.

Step 4: Flip it over.

Step 5: Bring the two bottom corners of the triangle to the last corner.

Step 6: Open up the triangle and push down to form a square.

Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for the other side.

Step 8: Open the two squares partially, you will see a triangle. Fold the corner of the triangle down.

Step 9: Fold down the two corners of the square

Step 10: Fold down the corner of the small triangle formed.

Step 11: Repeat Step 9 and 10 for the other side.

Step 12: Flip it over.

And you get your beautiful origami HEART!
As part of our Youth For Causes Project, we will be challenging the Singapore Book of Records’ Largest Origami Heart Formation! Wish us luck, because we really need plenty!

So let’s look forward to the second one tomorrow!
Today’s street sales was remarkably good thanks to the volunteers who really put in their utmost and tried very hard to keep the group going! We managed to do much better than the dry run and hope that our sales will continue to improve.
Tomorrow, we will be heading down to the same place to sell more cookies! We are situated near Lau Pa Sat, opposite ASO Building. You may have seen us around – probably even in some shopping centre folding origami hearts and arranging them into a larger heart! Feel free to approach us and buy a packet of cookies from us! :D

The characteristic “lub-dub” of a heartbeat is caused by the movement of the heart valves during each cardiac cycle. In the first phase, which is known as the systole, the tricuspid and mitral valves close, producing the “lub” sound. In the second phase (the diastole), the pulmonary and aortic valves close, resulting in the “dub” sound.

The average heart rate is roughly 72 beats per minute, which translates into approximately 100,000 beats a day. This figure may, however, differ widely among people of different age groups. For instance, the heart rate may be as high as 120 beats per minute in infants, and as low as 60 beats per minute in adults.

The heart is enclosed in a sac called the pericardium. The wall of the heart is made up of three layers known as the epicardium (outer layer), myocardium (middle layer), and endocardium (inner layer) respectively. The epicardium and endocardium are thin protective layers. In contrast, the myocardium is a thick, muscular layer which provides the strength for the heart to function as a pump.
